Work and Travel in Japan

After arriving in Japan, you can stop off to rest at the hostel that we have booked for you in advance. Breakfast is included, as well as airport transfer, washing-machine use and bike rental. We recommend you a language course to acquire or refresh basic Japanese skills.

An extensive orientation seminar gives you thorough preparation and you will also receive help applying for an “Alien Registration Card”. You need this in order to open a bank account and buy a mobile phone. Our local partners will also support you with this. You get information on how and where you can best find jobs, important tips about travelling in Japan. If you are looking for an accommodation near your work place, our local partners have also many insider tips.

All of this information will help you get easily accustomed to the new environment. That way you are able to start right away and always have the support of our local partners (24-hour emergency telephone number included). During your entire stay the services of our office can be used.

Conditions and prices

•Age: 18–30.
•Start date: All year round, min. 12 to a max. of 52 weeks.
•Language skills: You should have a good grasp of written and spoken English and medium Japanese skills. You can take a language course in Fukuoka in southern Japan to acquire or refresh basic Japanese skills.
•Closing date for applications: Approx. three months before departure. In urgent cases, please call us immediately, so that we can find you an available flight.
•Nationality: You need a working holiday visa iand this visa is only possible for these nationalities: Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Korea, France, Ireland, UK and Denmark.
•Insurances: Before starting your program we need proof of your health insurance, personal/public liability insurance and your accident insurance.

•Visa: Japan offers the popular “Work and Holiday” visa. With this visa you can travel round Japan for a year and take on any job you like except for jobs that increase the business of the leisure and entertainment industry (bars, night clubs). Also 20 % income tax must be paid. In this way you can finance your stay in Japan. The conditions for this visa are:
- You must be 18-30 years old when you apply.
- Only if you are citizen from Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, South Korea, France, Ireland, UK and Denmark.
- No children in your care.
- Proof of approx. € 2000 upon entry.
- Maximum twelve month stay.
- This visa may be granted once in a lifetime.
